Qualifiers | Vail Bouldering World Cup 2017

Sun, heat, and lots of slabs today in the qualifying round of the Vail Bouldering World Cup. The Japanese team destroyed the male field, having 9 climbers in the top 10. Janja Garnbret and Miho Nonaka lead the female category.

The difficulty of the round was pretty much perfect today, perhaps a bit too hard on the female side. All the problems were solved and a handful of climbers got 5 tops.

The American team got mixed results, with 5 women going through but just 1 man, Sean Bailey, making top 20. Alex Puccio offered a great performance, topping every single problem.

On the male side it was all about team Japan. The first hour of the round was a constant pour of Japanese tops. Hori, Sugimoto, Fujii, Ogata, the Narasakis (Meichi and Tomoa), Fujikawi, Harada and Watabe are all in the top 10.

Some big names out of semis are Sean McColl, Monika Retschy, Nathaniel Coleman, Stasa Gejo, Jason Holowach, Kai Lightner, Domen Skofic, Alannah Yip or Jakob Schubert.

Full results: men & women.

Semifinals tomorrow at 10:00 (UTC-6). Live at ifsc-climbing.org

Are you sure about “to tricky for Katja Kadić”?

      • The “too tricky for Katja” is from the IFSC video, so not much I can say. My guess is that there was an appeal, but not sure.

      • Apparently, there was an appeal after the comp, they didn’t register her last bonus. That’s why the results changed.
