Semifinals | Nanjing Bouldering World Cup 2017

Athletes fought against intense heat and hard problems in Nanjing. Most of them climbed one problem or less but the Japanese team looks unfazed and keeps crushing at a steady pace. They have 6 climbers in finals.

The finalists are:
1- Janja Garnbret | Keita Watabe
2- Mei Kotake | Jongwon Chon
3- Miho Nonaka | Manu Cornu
4- Shauna Coxsey | Rui Sugimoto
5- Aya Onoe | Jernej Kruder
6- Jain Kim | Tomoa Narasaki

Quick thoughts:

  • Half of the final will be Japanese. There will be a Japanese climber on the wall in every round of every problem.
  • First bouldering final for Jain Kim since the 2012 World Championships in Paris (she has done very few bouldering events since then).
  • The conditions seem to be pretty challenging, Eddie Fowke, from The Circuit, reports that the temperature was about 30 degrees Celsius (86 Fahrenheit).
  • Since the female qualification round was delayed, the women had much less time to rest than usual, just around 12 hours.
  • Only Keita Watabe, Shauna Coxsey and Janja Garnbret have made finals in all the world cups we’ve had so far.
  • 7th place for Katja Kadic and Jan Hojer.

Full results: men & women.

Finals in less than 1h! At 18:30 (UTC+8). Live at ifsc-climbing.org

    1. […] Nothing is off the table. Two golds? Why not, wouldn’t be the first time. 50% of climbers in finals being Japanese? It happened last week. […]
