2014 Chongqing Bouldering World Cup – Preview

The 2014 IFSC Bouldering World Cup kicks off tomorrow in the massive city of Chongqing, China. The Shi Zi Shan Sports Park will host the first of the 8 World Cups of the season.

Chongqing bouldering competition wall

The wall is brand-new, instead of the one used in 2012 and 2013, and has plenty of features and angles. The route setters seem to be pleased with it and with the rank of holds and volumes at their disposal.

Semifinals and finals will be streamed live at ifsc-climbing.org

This year many more climbers will participate in Chongqing (compared to 2013’s edition).

Many teams that weren’t present last year will have climbers competing: Australia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Poland, Switzerland…

And some other teams are sending more climbers than in previous editions: France, Japan, the Netherlands, the USA…

Most of the big names in the bouldering competition scene will be in Chongqing (Sharafutdinov, Gelmanov, Fischhuber, Stöhr, Noguchi, Puccio…). Some of the stars missing are Sean McColl, Jackob Schubert and Jain Kim.

You can check the entire starting list here.
