2016 Vail Bouldering World Cup | Semifinals

Hard semis in Vail. 2 quick tops were the ticket to finals. Akiyo Noguchi and Jongwon Chon are out. The Japanese team has 3 men in finals. Nonaka and Puccio crushed.

The finalists are:

  1. Alexey Rubtsov – Miho Nonaka
  2. Kokoro Fujii – Alex Puccio
  3. Tomoa Narasaki – Anna Stöhr
  4. Ogata Yoshiyuki – Megan Mascarenas
  5. Rustam Gelmanov & Sean McColl – Melissa Le Neve
  6. Shauna Coxsey

Quick thoughts:

  • Just 1 flash in the entire male semifinal (Gelamnov, problem 3).
  • Half of the male finalists are Japanese.
  • 9 of the women didn’t top a single problem. W3 remained unclimbed.
  • The Japanese didn’t stop trying, they have 11, 12 and 19 attempts.
  • Petra Klingler sits in 7th place, she’s the only female climber with 2 tops out of finals.
  • First final for Ogata Yoshiyuki, just 18 years old. The Japanese team keeps producing finalists year after year.
  • Noguchi cant’t win the overall anymore (it was almost impossible even before this comp).

Full results: men & women

Finals at 4.30pm (UTC-6). Live at ifsc-climbing.org
