The lineup for this year’s edition is one of the strongest ever. On the male side, reigning champion Nathaniel Coleman, coming off a finger injury, will defend his title against 9 time winner Daniel Woods and a whole other horde of strong contenders that includes Dark Horse Champion Kai Lightner, USA Bouldering Cup leader Shawn Raboutou and many other elite-level climbers like Ian Dory, Michael O’Rourke, Carlo Traversi, Josh Larson…

Stars like Sean McColl (winner in 2011), Alexey Rubtsov (World Champion in 2009), Tyler Landman (finalist last year) or Muhammad Jafari (winner two years ago) will add an international flavor to the event.

On the female field, all eyes will be on Alex Puccio and Megan Mascarenas. Puccio has won every single competition she’s entered since she recovered from her neck injury. This would be her 10th National Championship title. Mascarenas, winner last year, hasn’t been competing that much since the world champs in Paris. Her result in the Dark Horse Championship was pretty modest for her but still, there’s no doubt she’s one of the favorites. Other names to keep in mind are Kyra Condie, Brooke Raboutou, Sierra Blair-Coyle or Ashima Shiraishi.

Check the entire lineup here.

Here’s the schedule (in UTC-7):
– Qualifiers: Friday 3, 10:15 am
– Semifinals: Saturday 4, 9:50 am
Finals: Saturday 4, 7:30 pm

Every round of the competition will be live-streamed on the USA Climbing Youtube channel. Usually, the USA Nationals live coverage is top-notch, the Louder Than Eleven crew do a really good job.

Finally, the scoring and ranking system they use in this event is quite peculiar and very different from the IFSC format. If you wanna get into the details and really understand how it works, check out this video that I did last year.
