Asian Bouldering Championships: 5 more medals for Japan

The Japanese team continues with his amazing results, last weekend they won 5 medals (2 golds, 2 silvers, and a bronze) during the Asian Championships in Teheran. Kokoro Fujii and Akiyo Noguchi were the winners. Japan also won 5 medals in Lead, including both golds.

The all-Japanese male podium, with Tomoa Narasaki, who as 4th, on the side.

On the male category, Japan’s dominance was absolute, with their 4 competitors occupying the 4 top positions. It must be pointed out that the absence of Jongwon Chon made it significantly easier for them.

4 Japanese athletes won medals in bouldering and lead: Kokoro Fujii (gold in bouldering and lead), Akiyo Noguchi (gold in bouldering, silver in lead) Aya Onoe (gold in lead, silver in bouldering) and Yoshiyuki Ogata (silver in bouldering, bronze in lead).

Also, Keita Watabe won the bronze in bouldering and Mei Kotake won the bronze in lead. Out of the 7 Japanese climbers, Only Tomoa Narasaki went home without a medal (don’t feel too sorry for him ;).

  1. Thank you for the write up. Do you know why there has been absolute silence about the Asian Championships from IFSC? No preview, social media coverage (even after the fact), nor results on their website…?

No idea. I had to look hard to find any pics or videos. My guess is that the event wasn’t too well organized and that the IFSC, knowing that, decided to more or less ignore it.

  1. […] In Karayoshi, Japan, the Asian Continental Championships are taking place and so far the local team is crushing (they pretty much did the same last year). […]
