Creature from the Black Lagoon, Topaz and Jade: Hard repetitions in Colorado

The alpine bouldering in Colorado has brought us some of the hardest repetitions of the season. Sam Weir, Jimmy Webb and Daisuke Ichimiya have repeated problems up to V16!

'It wasn't my best go but I made it count and took it to the top. Such a cool line and thanks to everyone who came and night sessioned with me to get this thing done!'

In Wild Basin, Sam Weir has climbed his first V15 | 8C. He did the 4th ascent of Topaz, which was first climbed by Dave Graham last year.

After falling several times near the end, Topaz became a mental battle for him: “It took a lot of mental strength to see this one through and climb confident enough to set the toe hooks. I was plenty strong enough to do it many times but just wasn’t mentally ready to put it down.

During his visit to the Rocky Mountain National Park, Ichimaya also repeated one of the most iconic problems in North America, Jade, currently considered V14 | 8B+.

'I don't know how many times my finger skin was cut by Jade. Finally, I could finish it today.Jade is one of goal for this trip.'
