First 8B for Katha Saurwein, first 8C for Martin Stráník

Austrian climber Katha Saurwein has made a successful trip to the Rocky Mountain National Park (Colorado, USA), managing to climb Nuthin’ but sunshine 8B | V13 and several other hard boulders. Also, in Switzerland, Czech climber Martin Stráník has climbed his first 8C problem.

Nuthin’ but sunshine (also climbed by Coxsey and Puccio) is Saurwein’s first 8B | V13 boulder problem, though she has sent several 8A+ | V12 and even flashed an 8A | V11 (Tricky, in Ticino, Switzerland). Her impressive list of ascents in RMNP also includes Riddles in the park 8A+ | V12 and Eternia 8A | V11.

Meanwhile, in Magic Wood, Switzerland, Martin Stráník has managed to repeat Chris Sharma’s Practice of the Wild 8C | V15. This is the first 8C ascent for Stráník, who has been competing internationally for more than a decade. His best result so far was the silver medal he won in the Bouldering World Championships in Aviles, Spain, in 2007. He was just 17 years old. Since then he’s made semifinals in serveral World Cups, being really close to finals (7h place) in Vienna 2011.
