Jernej Kruder and Matilda Söderlund win the BBK Psicobloc in Bilbao

Jernej Kruder and Matilda Söderlund won the BBK Psicobloc (Deep Water Soloing) competition held in Bilbao yesterday. The competition followed the dueling format that is pretty much the standard for psicobloc events and was livestreamed through Youtube.

The river in the center of Bilbao was yesterday the stage for psicobloc action. This is the second deep water soloing competition that the city hosts . The first event of the kind took place 8 ago with Chris Sharma as winner and main attraction. Yesterday international stars and local heroes gathered once again to climb over the chilly waters.

The competition format was the usual in psicobloc events: two identical routes side by side, and a speed climbing duel in which the climber who gets higher faster progresses to the next round.

On the female side Swedish climber Matilda Söderlund beat USA’s Sasha Digiulian in the final race. The male winner was Slovenian star Jernej Kruder, who is very familiar with the psychological challenges of deep water soloing.

Podium:
1- Jernej Kruder | Matilda Söderlund
2- Nils Favre | Sasha Digiulian
3- Mikel Linacisoro | Julija Kruder
