Kilian Fischhuber retires from competitions

Kilian Fischhuber has announced his retirement from competitive climbing. The Austrian has been competing since 1997 and he’s arguably the best competition boulderer ever. He will continue climbing outside with projects in Iran, South Africa and India.

Fischhuber has been an example of what a climber must be on and off the wall for many years. Competing he’s one of the most complete athletes ever: dynos? no problem, power? check, metal game? solid as a rock. A fierce competitor, a nice guy loved by everyone and the perfect example of professionalism; the 2015 World Cup won’t be the same without him.

To cite every single one of Fischhuber’s accomplishments would be both challenging and a test to the reader’s attention span, so lets go over the main ones:

  • 9 times Austrian champion
  • 21 gold medals in World Cups
  • 2 silver medals in World Championships
  • 5 Overall World Cup titles
  • Current European Champion

He’s retiring on a very high note. In May he won yet another bouldering world cup and he’s currently rank world’s number 4. In the 2014 Overall World Cup he placed 5th.

We wish him the best for his future projects.
