Ondra and Saurwein, KO winners in Arco

Adam Ondra and Katharina Saurwein have won the Arco Rockmaster Bouldering KO Competition, held last week in Arco, northern Italy. The KO Bouldering Masters competition is part of the Arco Rockmaster Festival, that has been taking place for the last 30 years and includes many other climbing events.

The format used for the Knock Out event consists of 4 problems, that climbers get to try for 90 minutes the day before. During the competition, they get 3 attempts per problem and after each problem the last competitor is eliminated, with the top 3 trying the last problem.

This year the route setters have been Jacky Godoffe and Alberto Gnerro. The problems were good, the wall is quite spectacular and lends itself to set some really cool moves, and the difficulty level was almost perfect, although perhaps the slabs were a bit hard.

The second and last male problems were very exciting, with climbers falling from the very top and with Ondra securing the win in the very last attempt of the competition. Saurwein made the last problem look easy and won the comp with a spectacular flash, while Tesio and Gejo couldn’t top the last problem.
