Oriane Bertone climbs Golden Shadow, 8B+ | V14

French climber Oriane Bertone, just 12 years old, has become the 9th women to ever climb a boulder graded 8B+ | V14 by repeating Fred Nicole’s Golden Shadow in Rocklands, South Africa.

Golden Shadow is just the latest on Bertone’s impressive tick list of hard ascents. Despite her age she has already climbed two boulders graded 8B | V13, Fragile Steps and Psychopad, along with many other double-digits. Just a few weeks ago, also in Rocklands, she climbed Nutsa and Dirty Epic, both graded 8A | V11.

Bertone’s ascent is the second female repetition of Golden Shadow, after Ashima Shiraishi in 2014.

8B+, a selected club
Climbing an 8B+ | V14 is a feat that only the strongest boulderers out there can even consider trying. Among those, 9 women, have managed to pull it off. Tomoko Ogawa was the first one with her ascent of Cahtarsis back in 2012. Since then Ashima Shiraishi, Shauna Coxsey, Alex Puccio, Isabelle Faus, Mile Heyden, Melissa Le Neve, Anna Stöhr and, now, Oriane Bertone have joined the club.
