Weekly Digest – 6 January 2013

A couple of classics, an impressive ascent by a teenager and the videos of ascents that were newsworthy last week:
  • Jernej Kruder (SLO) has done the fourth ascent of “The Story of Two Worlds” 8C | V15 in Cresciano, Swizterland (he send the standing start, The Dagger 8B+ | V14, a few days ago). On his 8a.nu profile he claims to be “so f***ing happy”.  I think sending what is broadly considered the benchmark for the hardest confirmed grade on bouldering is a compelling reason for being “really” happy.
  • Jan Hojer (GER) ended 2012 on an awesome note by sending The Island 8B+ | V14 in Fontainebleau, France. Over at 8a.nu he says he’s going for “The Big Island” (a lower start to The Island) which is 8C | V15.
  • Alexander Megos (GER) has joined the exclusive “8B Flashers Club” by sending Blood Meridian on his first try. The problem is located in Bishop, California and, according to some (hopefully informed) debate it has been suggested for downgrade by some ascensionists.
